Our company was inspired by our CEO Sugita's experience of purchasing imported Japanese books when he was studying abroad in London, U.K. In 2011, the concept of cross-border e-commerce was not yet widely recognized, and the term itself was rarely used. On his days off, he would take the Northern Line to Mitsukoshi in Piccadilly Square or Kotsunami Shobo in Soho (now closed) and enjoy picking up Japanese books that were hard to find locally. At the publishing company where he worked after returning to Japan, he experienced editing and publishing under the joint name of Oxford University Press (U.K.) and negotiating copyrights with McGraw Hill (U.S.) and other foreign publishers. Drawing on his own experiences, he established the company in 2018, firmly believing that he wanted to make Japanese books readily available to people living overseas and to contribute to the development of global book distribution.
